“[A]t some distant period man forsook the path of nature, and sacrificed the purity and happiness of his being to unnatural appetites. The date of this event seems also to have been that of some great change in the climates of the earth, with which it has an obvious correspondence” —Percy Bysshe Shelley

I'm a fifth generation Alabamian, born in Auburn where I've lived for much of my life. Getting to know this place's history of agriculture and literature has inspired my own writing over the years. My interest in the way that literature shapes our relationship with place is deeply rooted in my experiences growing up in a college town.

I received my BA in English from the University of Montevallo where I developed Kudzu Review, a journal dedicated to creative and scholarly approaches to southern, ecological literature. I then returned to Auburn for my MA with a focus in Literature and a minor in Creative Writing. My experiences at Auburn have ranged from teaching freshman writing courses and discussion sections in core literature courses to reading and editing for Southern Humanities Review

My experiences reveal a diverse interest in the relationship between narrative and the construction of environments, and they reflect an ever-emerging desire to learn, teach, and grow.
